What Our Customers Are Saying
Bob M.
While driving 70 mph a vehicle pulled in front of me from the dirt center divider. Doing about 5 mph. Had to hit the brakes. Was in full anti lock. Was not going to stop in time. At the last moment I swerved around the vehicle. The trailer came up on 2 wheels. Then went into a jackknife. I hit full throttle to pull it out of jackknife. It was a miracle that everything held together. Thanks for the great hitch design. I definitely put it through an extreme test.
James C.
I liked the full enclosure of the jaws around the pin. Minimal chucking. This is a great hitch system. Hitching and unhitching is a breeze. Low maintenance. I pull a 40' 5th TH. I recommended the Curt A20 to a friend.
Key Distinctives of the A-Series
More Options
With everything from traditional industry-standard rails and sliders, to gooseneck platforms and OEM puck adapters, the A-series has the versatility to equip you with a hitch no matter your truck and trailer setup. Plus, our weight capacity options range from 16,000 all the way up to 30,000 pounds.
Interlocking Jaws
For a safer and more stable towing experience, each CURT A-series hitch is equipped with a set of dual interlocking jaws. Embedded within the articulating 5th wheel head, the coupler jaws completely encircle the kingpin and overlap one another, providing an extra layer of safety and security for your trailer connection.
Coupling Indicator
A-series is made for intuitive and hassle-free hookup. One of the features that facilitates this easier hookup is an integrated, color-coded coupling indicator, built into the hitch head. A quick visual check of the indicator tells you whether your connection is safe to tow or not and when it’s ready for hookup.
Self-Resetting Handle
Another feature that makes the A-series a truly user-friendly 5th wheel hitch is its self-resetting handle. Instead of requiring you to get out of the cab yet again to reset the handle, the handle self-resets to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling, automatically prepping the hitch for your next hookup.
Premium Construction
Each CURT A-series 5th wheel hitch is engineered and built for excellence, not only using high-quality materials but featuring a patented cast yoke design. This proprietary technology provides two key advantages.
First, the cast yoke makes the head very stable, promoting a significantly quieter ride. This means less vibrations and chucking and more comfort for the driver and passengers.
Second, the cast yoke design allows for a one-pin head removal. Instead of multiple pins and smaller components, a single, thick clevis pin anchors the head to the hitch body. This makes it much faster to disassemble the hitch when moving it out of your truck bed, and it allows for smaller, lighter pieces that are easier to lift and handle.
Choosing the Right A-Series Hitch
1. Verify Your Towing Capacity
Weight capacity is one of the most important aspects of towing safety. When choosing a 5th wheel hitch, consider the capacity of your truck and the weight of your trailer. Select a hitch that meets or reasonably exceeds your capacity, and always remember that your towing capacity is limited to the lowest-rated component in your system.
2. Measure Your Truck Bed
Measure your truck bed to make sure it will provide ample space to hold a 5th wheel hitch and allow enough clearance when turning. Do you have a short-bed truck or long-bed? Depending on the size of your truck bed, you may need to purchase a 5th wheel slider to add trailer-cab clearance as needed.
3. Choose Your Mounting Style
What is your truck bed already equipped with — an OEM puck system? A gooseneck hitch? Or perhaps none of the above? Whatever the case, the CURT A-series has an option to fully equip your truck for 5th wheel towing. Additionally, consider if you want your 5th wheel mount to be permanent or removable. Again, whatever your preference, the A-series has options to suit your needs.
